The Clergy
The Reverend - Ann Boyd, Rector
 
Trained first as a scientist, Rev. Boyd completed a Ph.D. at LSU in 1971, and worked in cancer research at Ft. Detrick from 1973-1988. She began teaching graduate courses at Hood College in 1975, transitioning from full time research to full time teaching in 1982.  Rev. Boyd served as Chair of the Department of Biology six years, Dean of the Graduate School nine years, and continues to teach at Hood.  She teaches courses in biomedical ethics, global issues, virology, genetics, and science and ethics.

Completing seminary first at St. Mary's Ecumenical Institute in Baltimore with a Masters of Arts in Theology with emphasis in systematic and moral theology, she continued seminary at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA with a Certificate of Advanced Theological Study.  Rev. Boyd was ordained as a priest February 2005.

Rev. Boyd became an ordained priest while she was a part-time assistant rector at St. John's in 2005.  She also served as rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Poplar Springs, Maryland.


Rev. Boyd believes that education is a life-long process, essential to the development of spiritual maturity and Christian formation. She teaches the adult forum on Sundays at 9 a.m. with an emphasis on the intersection between contemporary topics and Christian faith.


Rev. Boyd loves to travel, and she is passionate about fly fishing.  She also enjoys spending time with her two grandsons in Smithsburg.
