Welcome from Mark King,
Minister of Music
Minister of Music
There are many reasons why children, youth, and adults participate in the music ministry here at Saint John's. A few of these reasons include learning about the faith through singing, building friendships, and a good therapeutic outlet away from the stresses of everyday life. If you are looking for a place to use your musical talents in a close-knit community, then come and check us out!
Saint John's provides a comprehensive ministry for children, youth, and adults to use their gifts of music to offer praise to God. In addition to liturgy, the music ministry sponsors Music at Saint John's - a series of concerts, recitals, and choral Evensongs which include participation of the various choirs of the parish under the direction of Minister of Music Mark King, as well as noted guest artists.

Music has been an important ministry at Saint John's Parish since its beginning in 1785. It is a means of glorifying God in and through worship, in education, in fellowship, and a way of reaching out to the wider community.
The two choirs for boys and girls provide an opportunity for them to develop musically and spiritually with emphasis placed on musical artistry, encouragement to develop self-reliance, as well as leadership and service to the church and to one another. The education in religion, liturgy and music which is learned in choir will last a lifetime.

Music at Saint John's Series
Saint John's Parish sponsors a music series that is a true outreach ministry that draws those who appreciate fine music not only from the parish, but also the entire city and beyond.
Diverse programs have included both local and international musicians including both Saint John's Parish and Canterbury (youth) Choirs, as well as other choral groups, chamber ensembles, organists, pianists, and harpsichordists.
Mark King is an active member of The Association of Anglican Musicians and The American Guild of Organists. Mark also studied at the Royal School of Church Music in England. He is Instructor of Organ at both Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV, and Hagerstown College in Hagerstown, MD; and also serves on the Van Looy Organ Recital Series Committee at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA.
Mark has performed internationally and brings his knowledge and experience to the music program at Saint John's. He conducts the adult, children and youth choristers; as well as coordinates a concert series that is a major outreach ministry of the parish.
