Third Sunday after Epiphany
Annual Meeting: Saint John's annual meeting will be held Sunday, January 31st following the 10:15 a.m. service.
Adult Forum: You are invited! Sunday morning, following the 8 o'clock service in St. Mary's Chapel, you are invited to join in adult examination of contemporary issues facing Christians in today's world. Watch leading theologians, authors and church leaders wrestle with ideas and concepts with which we all struggle.
Becky Hogamier will give her presentation on managing Heroin addiction in Washington County on January 31st. Future topics include, February 7th, "What Gives You Faith?" February 14th, "How do we right the wrong?" February 21st, "What's God got to do with Evil?" February 28th, "Why Hope?" This is not your everyday Bible study! Everyone is welcome.
Monday Night Series: All adults are invited and encouraged to attend the weekly Monday Night Series book group, that meets in St. Mary's Chapel at 6:30. There is no need to sign up, all you need to do is show up! The book being discussed is The Gift of Imperfection by Dr. Brene Brown. Dr. Brown's book is available from Amazon for $8.66 in paperback and $3.99 on Kindle.
Contribution Statements: The statements for 2015 have either been emailed or mailed during the past week. If you have not received your statement please contact the office.
Giving Envelopes: Envelopes for 2016 are located at the back of the church. Please take your envelopes and review your number as it may have changed. If you do not have envelopes and would like envelopes, please contact the office.
Search Committee Update: The Rector Search Committee met on January 10th. During the session, we discussed criteria for rating potential candidates, and looked over the Diocesan guidelines concerning interview questions which are appropriate and those which are not. We were also split into three smaller work groups; each small group will meet independently of the larger search committee on their own to work through specific targeted questions prior to the next whole-group meeting at the end of the month.
Mayfest: The first organizational meeting for Mayfest 2016 will be held on February 7th following the 10:15 service in Sunday School classroom #4. Please join us if you are interested in being a part of the team that puts together this fantastic evening of food, fellowship and outreach fundraising! If you would like to volunteer, but are unable to attend the meeting, please contact Sareen or Kevin Hebb at 301-766-0834 or email@example.com. Youth Group: The Youth Group planning meeting is scheduled for February 7th. Youth grades 6 and up, and interested parents and adults are invited to attend and discuss plans for the youth group moving forward. The meeting will be held in Saint Mary's Chapel at 11 :30 a.m.
Party on Prospect: Don't miss a really good time! Tickets are going fast, and you don't want to be left out in the cold! Dr. Mark Cook and Friends will provide an evening of cool jazz along with heavy hors d'oeuvres, fabulous desserts, beer, and wine as Trimble Hall turns into an elegant cabaret for the evening. Winter Wonderland is the theme for the February 5 soiree from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Only a limited number of tickets are available at $35 apiece. All proceeds will go to Saint John's Outreach Projects. See Sue Sowers at the Antietam Street entrance right after the service for your non-refundable ticket or contact her at 301 733-4370. The event is scheduled with the expectation that the weather will cooperate, however a blizzard date is Sunday, Feb. 7 from 5 - 8 p.m. Think warmer temperatures and plan to enjoy the evening and its entertainment!
Reach Cold Weather Shelter: Winter has finally found us here in Washington County and there is a great need for the Reach cold weather shelter AND for volunteers during St. John's week February 28 through March 5. Thanks to all of you who've already answered the call! There are still a variety of tasks, shifts and chores available; SPECIFICALLY on Saturday March 5 is currently a very lonely day at the Shelter with NO sign-ups. In Trimble hall, on the table below the Service & Outreach bulletin board, is a brochure holder with task descriptions. You can also stop by the table at the Antietam Street entrance, between services and visit with Becca Burford and Teresa Taylor in person or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org (Becca) or phone 301-471- 1947 (Becca) or (Teresa) 301-471-4512. OR - see Betty Markle following the 10: 15 service. You can also learn more by visiting the Reach website www.reachofwc.org. AND, last but not least, - ALL volunteers must fill out the annual volunteer form ONLINE! Teresa & Becca will be happy to assist with this if needed.
