Second Sunday after Christmas
Bester School Needs: 1. Playground equipment-balls, jump ropes, etc. 2. Breakfast Mentors to sit with a child in the Bester cafeteria while the child is having breakfast from 8:15 until 9:00 a.m. to act as Big Brother/Sister to impart self-confidence and a desire to learn. 3. The School/Parent Liaison person, B.J. Lushbaugh needs a larger freezer for her food pantry at Bester. If you can help with any of the above, please contact Bill Alexander at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 240-469-7988.
Rector Search Committee Update: The Committee met for an informational and organizational meeting on Saturday, December 12. A charge from the vestry was granted to begin the process of working to identify candidates for the new rector. Data from the focus groups, parish survey, parish profile, and portfolio were discussed and analyzed, and the next two meeting dates have been set for January.
Stewardship Report: Thank you to the 124 individuals and families who committed $298,000 to support God's work through Saint John's in 2016. With a goal of $315,000, we must continue to ask for your responses, in grateful hearts, to our needs.
Reach Cold Weather Shelter: There are hundreds of homeless folk right here in Washington County and there is a great need for the Reach cold weather shelter and for volunteers during St. John’s week February 28 through March 5.
A variety of tasks, shifts and chores are available…stop by the table at the Antietam Street entrance, visit with Becca Burford and Teresa Taylor in person between services or via email: email@example.com (Becca) or phone 301-471-1947 (Becca) or (Teresa) 301-471-4512.
Betty Markle has graciously agreed to handle the coordination of all the kitchen duties. Please contact her directly to offer your assistance in that area.
To learn more you can visit the Reach website www.reachofwc.org.
Two big changes this year: sorry but no volunteers under the age of 13 are allowed. Teens 13-17 are allowed in the kitchen only and each must be accompanied by an adult and we’re allowed no more than 10 in the kitchen period. All volunteers must fill out the annual volunteer form online! Teresa & Becca will be happy to assist with this!
Gift Card purchases support the outreach efforts of the Saint John's Shelter. Gift cards are available from Martin’s for $20, $50, and $100; and from Weis for $50 and $100. You get full value, the church gets 5%, and the stores get your business: it’s a WIN WIN WIN. Cards are available at the Antietam Street entrance after each service.
