Saint John’s Shelter: Most of us dream of being home for the holidays, surrounded by friends and family, safe, warm, and joyful. Homeless families are no different except their dreams seem, at times, to be out of reach. The Board of Directors of Saint John's Shelter is asking you to help us keep those dreams intact this Holiday Season for the five families currently living in the Shelter. At Christmas we strive to provide each family with some fruit, cookies, and candy, as well as a Walmart gift card for EACH resident (not just each family) this enables them to purchase gifts for each other or buy items the family needs. We will gratefully accept donations toward this effort through Sunday December 17th. Please see Julie Barlup before/after 10:15 services or Becca Burford before/after 8 o'clock services (or reach Becca at 301-471-1947 or firstname.lastname@example.org). We ask you to keep the resident families of Saint John’s Shelter in your thoughts and prayers. Prayers that their stay in shelter may be brief, their search for a permanent home fruitful, and their holidays joyful. Thank you!

Christmas at the Community Café: Christmas is coming! Making up the packages last year went great and we think everyone was pleased with the groceries and personal hygiene items…
but we would like to try something else this year. The sentiment of many of our customers is that they love that our meals and desserts are home made. Even when what we are serving is not one of their favorites or is not quite right, they like that we care enough to put extra effort into preparing the food. There is a lot of heart in what we do at the Café. We are thinking it would be nice if we made up cookie boxes and possibly add a couple pieces of fruit as our Christmas gift this year. We want the cookies to be homemade and that means we are calling for the bakers in the parish to bake an extra dozen cookies or more to fill the boxes. Anyone who doesn't bake and. wants to participate might bring some oranges or apples. We need to know by December 3rd. what and how much you are planning to bring. Then we would need all of the items by Dec. 17th. Then we can spend the next week packaging the items. If you are baking cookies - how many dozen. If you are bringing fruit - how much. We want to thank everyone in advance for all of your support throughout the year. Susan and Bob Rauth
